Who We Are
Established in 1973 by the Birmingham Jewish Federation, the N. E. Miles Jewish Day
School is located on the Jewish Community Campus. Our student body includes children
in grades K-8, from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and is a member of Prisma, the national organization of North America Community Jewish Day Schools. We receive annual support from the Birmingham Jewish Federation.The school was named for Dr. Nathaniel Edgar Miles (1910-1995), a friend and philanthropist, who devoted his career and life to children and Jewish education.

The N.E. Miles Jewish Day School strives to create a community of learners who value lifelong study, respect human diversity and are able to make informed choices about their lives. Our goal is to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment,encouraging each student to feel positive about him/herself and others while preparing to be a knowledgeable, caring and contributing member of the Jewish people, the United States of America and the world. As a community day school, we seek to imbue our students with a love for G-d, Torah and Israel and to teach respect for diverse viewpoints. Our unique program endeavors to integrate Judaic and core curricula, incorporating the highest values of Judaism and American democracy.
Job Description Summary
The Head of School is the primary educational and administrative official of the school, ultimately accountable to the Board of Directors. They are a professional leader and visionary, with a passion for education in both Judaic and General Studies, who recognizes the importance of developing every child’s individual talents and abilities.
The Head of School is responsible for education and curricula strategy, planning and oversight; faculty recruitment, development, supervision and retention; student recruitment and retention; fundraising; community relations as well as administrative and fiscal oversight.

The Ideal Candidate
Ideally, the Head of School is someone who is enthusiastic about Judaism, who can put themselves in multiple aspects of the entire community and build the ruach (spirit) of this school, who can translate ideas into action and has shown an ability to successfully carry through on projects and hold those involved accountable. They should be an absolute evangelist for our school, for our values, who can then sell the concept of the importance of an education through a Jewish lens.

Qualifications
● Masters level degree in education or educational leadership, with some supplemental
training preferred.
● At least five (5) years experience in a leadership / administrative position.
